The Other Two isn’t a dark satire, exactly, but it’s acidic enough to keep its main characters scrambling and desperate and unhappy. The Dubek family appears to be thriving.īut, of course, they’re not. Which is where their mother, Pat ( Molly Shannon), has found herself: over the course of the show’s run, she’s gone from Ohio momager to beloved talk show host and is now an Oprah-styled media mogul, with her very own television network. His sister, Brooke ( Helené Yorke), is ensconced in the management team of their pop-star brother, Chase ( Case Walker), though feeling the itch for more responsibility-more real work at the center of the entertainment industry. The third season finds struggling actor Cary ( Drew Tarver) struggling just a little bit less: he’s filmed a role in a sorta buzzy indie called Night Nurse and imagines his career will be transformed instantly. It couldn’t have come soon enough, as Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider’s series-about the family of a Justin Bieber-esque pop idol-is a winsome, riotously funny look at the mechanics of celebrity. After a nearly two-year wait, niche-favorite comedy series The Other Two returns this week (HBO Max, May 4) for its third season.
